On June 15,1991, after being dormant for 611 years, Mt. Pinatubo, erupted with massive violence destroying everything in the path and killing 847 people. Mt. Pinatubo eruption was considered as the worlds most violent and destructive volcanic eruption of the 20th century.

Alberto Garcia, based in Canada, is among the world's greatest photographers of all time. His photo of the Pinatubo volcano eruption in 1991 has won him the World Press Photo in 1992 which makes him the first Filipino photographer to have won
the prestigious photo competition held every year
in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
His Photo of the Pinatubo volcano eruption was featured in Time Magazine's Great Images of the 20th Century and the only Filipino to be part of it. His work is also seen in National Geographic.
