Franz Lopez

Photographer

Franz Lopez is a dedicated photographer whose journey began at just 10 years old, driven by a curiosity that quickly turned into a lifelong passion. In 2018, he founded Born In Film to promote analogue photography and build a creative, inclusive community for visual storytellers. Today, Born In Film is behind global movements like World Photowalk and World Photography Day-initiatives that highlight photography's roots and its power to inspire social action. The group has partnered with organizations like UNICEF and the Department of Tourism (among others) to champion the message that photography is for everyone. Franz also leads Photo Nation International, a global network of over 26,000 photographers from 114 countries. As a senior photo/video journalist at Rappler, he has covered major national stories including Typhoon Haiyan (2013) and the Taal Eruption (2020). He produces and hosts PhotoRap, a show on photography history and techniques, and has been featured in ABS- CBN's #NoFilter documentary series through Isang Libong Salita. He continues to share his knowledge through the podcasts Film Factor and The Retrospect, engaging listeners in meaningful conversations about the craft. Franz Lopez is a member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and leads Born in Film Organization Inc.- the only PSA-recognized camera club in Asia representing the Philippines. Through his work, he continues to champion a photography culture that is inclusive, purposeful, and grounded in community.
